Innocence

Talking to the kids tonight about our upcoming changes felt almost like I was taking away a part of their innocence. Like I've failed them as a mom. While I know--intellectually--that this isn't the case, my heart still aches for them. Because they're supposed to trust that things at home are safe and stable and predictable. And tonight they learned that even at home things can be shaky, if even for only a little while.

So now, the trick is to acknowledge their fears and their anxieties and help them learn that despite change, life moves along and things really will be ok. Even better than ok, since--let's face it--that's the goal and the reason for all of this change in the first place.

So, here's to change. Embracing it, celebrating it, living through it. And coming out brighter on the other side.

P.S. For those of you who read here and don't yet know, Phil and I are splitting up and he's moving out........that's all the change I'm talking about.

Lisa I can't imagine what you are going through right now but I think this change is going to do you good. I know the kiddos will look back on this and thank you for it. I'm glad my parents separated when I was younger instead of staying together just for me. I know your future will be brighter and us girls are here for you. We love ya :)

You are a great mom and you have great kids. This will be hard, but I'm sure it is a good decision.

Just remember you are doing what is best...if you are confident in your decision your kids will pick up on that! You are a super terrific mom who loves her kids and that is all that matters!

and of course you always have your friends to talk to!

Wish the best for you in this trying time. You already know that you are a great mom, don't let yourself forget it. You are stronger than you may realize. You can make it through this tough time. Know that you have many people who care about you, and are willing to help.
